Taking an Antibiotic?

This past Friday the CDS Team had our annual OSHA Training with the always informative Cathy Turbyne! We went over all the usual safety and infection control precautions, but we also discussed something new: the importance of taking probiotics in conjunction with your antibiotic, or even as a daily supplement.

^A really great blog post about the benefits of Probiotics!^

In recent years, C diff (Clostridium Difficile) infections have become more frequent, more severe and more difficult to treat. Unfortunately Antibiotics kill all bacteria, not just the bad ones. When antibiotics destroy the good bacteria in our digestive systems, C diff infections can occur. Probiotics help to increase the number of healthy bacteria so decreasing the possibility of a C diff infection.Make sure you talk to your Doctor, (or Dentist, FNP, Pharmacist, etc...) about the antibiotic you're being prescribed, and ask about the need for a probiotic. The link above has some really great info about how to choose the right probiotics for you.
